Solera – What is a Cream Sherry?

Solera Texas SherrySolera is the process of aging wine by a fractional blending in such a way that the finished product is a mixture of ages, with the average age gradually increasing as the process continues over many years. A solera is the set of barrels or other containers used in the process. Sherry is a fortified wine made from white grapes that are grown near the town of Jerez, Spain. After fermentation is completed, Sherry is fortified with brandy.

Most Sherries are originally dry, with any sweetness being added later. Sherry is produced in a variety of styles, from dry, light versions to darker and heavier versions, to sweet dessert wines, such as Cream Sherry. A Cream Sherry is a common type of sweet Sherry made by blending different wines.
