Family Scrapbook

We give thanks to the Lord for a successful Wine and Roses and another new vintage at Messina Hof. Thank you to our great staff who organized and executed the festival this year and to all those who came to enjoy the day! Everything here is beautiful and green. Baby grape clusters are on the vines. Each spring feels like the doctor just told us that we are expecting a new baby! Wine and Roses is also special because our Messina Hof VIP family gets together. Three hundred of our VIP’s plus thousands of others joined us for a fun day of celebrations. Car show with Dr. Love, vendors from all over, grape stomping competitions, wine tastings, wine classes, cooking demos, Aggie Wranglers and so much more created a very fun day! Now is the time we begin planning for next year. Please give us your feedback on what you liked and what you would like to see different. Just leave a comment to this blog!

Paul M and Karen celebrated their one year anniversary at Messina Hof this month. Paul M celebrated his birthday this month. Paul V celebrated another great release of wines at the Spring Release dinner. This one was especially fun because Paul V and Paul M released together this year. They did a fabulous job creating more wonderful wines – Chenin Blanc 2010, Pinot Grigio 2010, Unoaked Chardonnay 2010, Private Reserve Cabernet Franc 2009, and Private Reserve Port 2007. Chef Dwight started the meal with a salmon filet set in a pool of Angle Vanilla Cream Anglaise (please check the dish for the correct name and spelling)  that was a perfect pairing with the Chenin Blanc. The baby spinach salad with light blue cheese vinaigrette paired beautifully with the Unoaked Chardonnay and the stuffed quail over julienned spring vegetables in a Cabernet sauce paired perfectly with the Private Reserve Cabernet Franc. Dinner concluded with a triple chocolate mousse cake drizzled with drunken strawberries that made the Private Reserve Port sing! Kudos to winemakers and chef!

It is hard to believe that the cruise is only four weeks away. Now with our travels and the festival behind us, I can start to pack! Several people have asked me about how dressy the cruise will be. It is casual. The only event that will be semi-dressy will be the Portofino dinner and that is your choice. Paul will wear a jacket and I will wear a dress. Other than that dinner, everything else will be comfortable and casual. In preparation for the trip and to get in the mood, check out My Life In Ruins. It is a romantic comedy set in the ruins of Greece.

Cheers,
Merrill
