Messina Hof Helps Charities Raise Funds

“Soroptimist is a global women’s organization whose members volunteer to improve the lives of women and girls through programs leading to social and economic empowerment. More than 80,000 Soroptimists in about 120 countries and territories support community–based and global projects benefiting women and girls. The organization is particularly concerned with providing women and girls access to education, as this is the most effective path to self-determination.”

The name, Soroptimist, means “best for women,” and that’s what the organization strives to achieve. Soroptimists are women at their best, working to help other women to be their best.”

Each year Messina Hof Winery supports the Plainview Soroptimist club with a wine tasting fundraiser.  This year we also supported the Amarillo Soroptimist club at a wine tasting fundraiser held at First United Bank.  Messina Hof farms and contracts grapes from 850 acres in the High Plains.  Many of the wines served came from grapes grown by the attendees’ neighbors.

This year’s event was a wine and food pairing.  The following pairings worked very well and are easy for you to replicate in your own kitchen:

1. Messina Hof Un-Oaked Chardonnay from vineyards in Halfway, Texas is a crisp dry wine with tropical fruit notes.  This wine paired nicely with Gouda and Fried Chicken dipped in Honey Mustard.

2. Messina Hof Moscato – These grapes came from Young Vineyard.  Its ripe peach flavors and aromatics with semi sweet finish made it a perfect complement with the pepper cheese and Fire Jack (spicy) meatballs.

3. Messina Hof Private Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon – Grapes from five Lubbock and Lamesa growers blend together to make this rich steak worthy wine.  Big flavors complemented the beef and cheddar cheese.

4. Messina Hof Angel Riesling – Like an angel, this heavenly sweet wine is a dessert by itself but was a beautiful mate to the giant chocolate covered strawberries.

5. Messina Hof Barrel Reserve Port – Liquid chocolate cherry is the natural flavor of this wine and went perfectly with the chocolate brownies and yum-yums.

Messina Hof Wine Cellars, Inc appreciates the opportunity to assist organizations like this in raising funds to support their efforts to help others.  If you are in such an organization, please feel free to contact us about helping with a uniquely designed fundraising event.  Contact owners@messinahof.com.
