I had never seen Chicago or the Great Lakes before. From the air the land around Chicago was blanketed with white snow and ice. It looked like a large glazier for as far as the eye could see. Blankets of snow are so quieting and soothing. It is almost as though the connection to plant life and all that God created is briefly covered and the energy is muted. All creation becomes quiet and restful and at peace. God tucks us into a restful state and says be still and sleep.
Chicago itself looked sprawling and brown. Every building was some shade of brown further highlighted by the brown dormant trees lining the streets. The city seemed laid out with perfectly straight steets in symmetric parallel as though they were huge crop rows. The great lakes looked like another ocean wrapped around the edge of the city.
