First Grapes from the Texas High Plains

Another busy and exciting part of the Harvest season is here, marked by the arrival of the first two large grape trucks (consisting of Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Grigio) at Messina Hof Estate! The trucks traveled from Lahey and Lepard Vineyards, both of which are located in the Texas High Plains. With our partnerships, Messina Hof is able to produce incredible and diverse wine varietals because of the broad range in grapes we obtain from all around Texas.

Pinot Grigio

Lahey Vineyard is a family-owned business established in 2014. Although the vineyard is a recent addition, the family’s farming history dates back 60 years to Lahey Farms. Today, with over 800 acres of grapes, Lahey Vineyards is the largest vineyard in Texas. From Lahey Vineyards, we received Pinot Grigio and Sauvignon Blanc. This is the first time Messina Hof will produce a Sauvignon Blanc is ten years!

Sauvignon Blanc

Lepard Vineyard of Brownfield, Texas is owned by Russell and Sharon Lepard. Russell believes that the most rewarding part of being a vineyard owner centers around his ability to work both with family and in the wine industry. Lepard Vineyards is unique because of its location and elevation (3,550 ft. above sea level), which allows an ideal micro-climate for growing grapes. This week, we received Pinot Grigio from Lepard Vineyards. Be sure to check out Messina Hof’s Limited Release Lepard Vineyards Chenin Blanc, which is produced solely from grapes grown in the Lepard Vineyards.

This fall, be on the lookout for our Pinot Grigio and Sauvignon Blanc for even more authentic flavors from the Texas High Plains!
